Zeiss Adds 32mm Options To Victory SF Range

Zeiss has added 8×32 and 10×32 models to it’s top of the range Victory SF family. The products are expected to start shipping in May and there is likely to be short supply in the first few months so we are taking pre-0rders now.

For more details and to place your pre-order click here.

Here’s what Zeiss has to say about the new editions:

“With birds often hiding in dense cover, it’s essential that you have a wide field of view to allow you to spot any slight movements. The wide field of view of the ZEISS Victory SF binoculars increases the observable area of interest by up to 20% in comparison with other binoculars. Depending on the model, the field of view is between 120 m and 155 m, giving the user an impressive overview.”

And here are some videos outlining some of the features of the SF concept:

OP/TECH Tripod Sleeves

OP/TECH USA’s Tripod Sleeves are a convenient way to protect a tripod’s legs from the elements when in rough outdoor conditions. Keeping debris from getting clogged in the internal working mechanisms of your tripod prolongs the life of your tripod and ensures that it continues to operate smoothly. Tripod Sleeves are ideal for use at the beach, on river banks, in the snow, in a muddy swamp or even in desert conditions where blowing sand and grit can damage the delicate mechanisms on a tripod. Why risk missing a great bird because you don’t want to get your tripod in the middle of the action? Tripod Sleeves are compact and easy to store in a pocket or camera bag so there’s no reason to leave them behind.

The Tripod Sleeves can remain on the legs as the tripod’s mechanisms remain visible and operable through the plastic. The sleeves will collapse along with the tripod leg. They’re also great for monopods. When shooting in high-humidity conditions where condensation could possibly enter the sleeves, it’s good to remove them to dry them out once you are finished so they are ready to go for the next outing.

The Tripod Sleeves are made of durable clear plastic and are easy to apply. Their generous size covers up to 46″ (116.8 cm) of the leg’s length and up to 2¾” (7cm) in diameter. Simply pull them over the leg and tighten them snugly with the built-in drawstring and barrel lock. The reinforced bottoms offer added protection when in use among rocks and sand. Be sure to add them to your “must-have” gear when preparing for your birding trip.

  • Each sleeve measures 5″ x 48″
  • Includes 3 sleeves
  • Fits tripod legs up to 2-3/4″ (7 cm) in diameter
  • Covers up to 46″ (116,8 cm) of length

Vanguard Comfort Harness

Now in stock. We think this is probably the most comfortable and practical binocular harness we’ve come across. Here’s what Vanguard has to say about it:

“The longer you spend time out and about bird watching or looking for local flora and fauna, the heavier and more awkward your binoculars can seem to become. A binocular often starts out feeling light, but after considerable time spent hiking it suddenly begins to feel like the neck strap is cutting through the back of your neck. What little weight there is becomes a constant reminder that you have something around your neck. Your chest becomes sore and you are aggravated from the number of times the binocular has bounced off your sternum as you jumped a log, or stood up too quickly from a crouched or low position.

Binoculars with neck straps often bang into a fallen log or bounce off trees as you navigate obstacles.

What you need to eliminate such problems is to try a good Bino-Harness for your trip.  Vanguard offers the PH-1 harness to help make your time more enjoyable and comfortable.

The PH-1 passes over your shoulders in an “x” pattern away from the neck, putting the weight and strain on the bones and muscles of your shoulders and back area providing much better support and ultimately more comfort.

Good harnesses attach to the binos via free sliding fixtures which move up the strap as you raise them to view. With such a system held at eye level, there is no strain at all. The straps are continuous, passing through the fixtures and around your back. This means that the binoculars are held much closer into your chest at all times, no matter what you are doing. This eliminates sternum discomfort and provides a secure, easy way to carry and protect your binoculars.”

GPO Now At In Focus

We are pleased to announce that we have been able to add German Precision Optics (GPO) binoculars to our online and in-store range.

The Passion ED line includes 8x and 10x models with either 32mm or 42mm objective lens. All use ED glass to minimise colour fringing and the body of each binocular is constructed from magnesium to ensure light weight and durability.

At the top of the GPO range are the Passion HD models which the company has pitched against similarly priced models from Leica and Zeiss. There are 8×42 and 10×42 options in this line.

As always, we recommend that you visit one of our shops to try this new range. Please call ahead to check that the model you are interested in is in stock.
