The habitat around the
visitor centre favours dragonflies and we have a selection of
specialist equipment for viewing them from macro monoculars focussing
in to 300mm and binoculars which work down to 1.5m or less.
During the season you can expect nearly 20 species to show including
red- eyed damselfly, small red-eyed damselfly, hairy dragonfly
and perhaps red-veined darter.

The shop is situated in the Anglian Water Birdwatching
Centre at Egleton; the home of The British Birdwatching Fair. There are
stunning views of the Rutland Water Nature Reserve from the shop making
this the ideal situation from which to test binoculars and telescopes.
During spring and summer there are regular sightings of Ospreys and in
the winter there are huge concentrations of wildfowl just in front of
the shop.

Update
Now that more traditional spring weather
is with us we have sightings of green sandpiper, avocet, ringed plover,
little ringed plover and little egret, along with common tern, little
gull, grasshopper warbler and yellow wagtail.
Birds of prey including osprey, buzzard, red kite, kestrel, sparrowhawk,
merlin and peregrine.
