With spring fully under way the reserve has seen an influx of breeding
waders. So far we have around 30 pairs of Avocet, 70+ pairs of Lapwing,
plenty of Redshank, Oystercatcher and a few Snipe and Ringed Plover.
Willow Warbler and Chiff-Chaff, Sweallows and Sand Martins, Wheatear
and White Wagtails have been on the move. Its a good time of year
it see Garganey, the first Cuckoos, as well as Blackcap, Whitethroat
and the first Sedge and Reed Warbler. Raptors are still well represented
with late Merlin, a local Peregrine pair, Marsh Harrier as well as plenty
of Common Buzzard. The first Osprey of the year came through a sort

Situated in a purpose built
showroom on the Wildfowl & Wetland Trust Reserve (off the A59 at Burscough
Bridge) our shop has superb viewing facilities for testing optics. Since
January 1999 over 180 species have been listed from the shop, including:
Glossy Ibis, Black-winged Stilt, Cattle Egret, Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral
Sandpiper, Vagrant Canada Goose, American Green-winged Teal, Bittern,
Goshawk, Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Red Kite, Osprey, Honey Buzzard,
White-winged Black Tern, Spoonbill, Grey Phalarope and Great White Egret
.
