View from Our Window
With spring fully under way the reserve has seen an influx of breeding waders. So far we have around 30 pairs of Avocet, 70+ pairs of Lapwing, plenty of Redshank, Oystercatcher and a few Snipe and Ringed Plover. Willow Warbler and Chiff-Chaff, Sweallows and Sand Martins, Wheatear and White Wagtails have been on the move. It’s a good time of year it see Garganey, the first Cuckoo’s, as well as Blackcap, Whitethroat and the first Sedge and Reed Warbler. Raptors are still well represented with late Merlin, a local Peregrine pair, Marsh Harrier as well as plenty of Common Buzzard. The first Osprey of the year came through a sort while ago.
