Spring 2010
It is now officially Spring, after what seemed an endless winter but
hopefully we can look forward to a good breeding season, though everything
appears to be about a fortnight behind from previous years with the
blackbird, chaffinches, robins and thrushes are only just getting into
song here.
I have had a few encouraging reports on those Cettis
warblers that I commented upon in the last write up and now of Wheatears,
Sand Martins, Garganeys, Ospreys and even Swallows locally so migration
is well underway.
Onto optics and the best sellers in the scope ranges
currently are the Opticron GS 665 standard and ED with the HDF zoom
and the unbeatable value for money Opticron ES 80 ED again with the
HDF zoom or SDL eyepieces.
In the smaller scopes the Nikon ED 50 and the Opticron GS 52 ED pretty
much have the small scope market sorted out.
In the binoculars we see the introduction of the
long awaited Swarovski ELs.the Swarovisions. These have field flattener
eyepieces and use fluorite glass and are in a much more user friendly,
feel and shape of design, still with the open bridge style tubes and
are brilliant.
The Zeiss FL range still continues to sell well, and may well be seen
as a bit of a bargain compared to other high end binoculars.
In the mid price range the Opticron SE, DBA and Auroras along with the
new Veranos offer excellent optical performance and value for money.
Also we have the revised Steiner Skyhawk Pro, also our own branded range
of the Delta SL. In the lower price we have our new Delta S and Opticron
Oregons.
All of these are nitrogen filled and fully waterproof with modern twist
up eyecups for easy spectacle use.
