January 2012
It is now the New Year and I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all of our customers for their support over the
difficult times of last year hopefully 2012 is going to get better.
This winter as so far been very mild and the feeders
are very quiet with visits from Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker
infrequent the same can be said about our Long Tailed Tits their numbers
are well down after the last two very bad winters.
Numbers of up to 30+ feeding Goldfinchs have been well
up sunflower hearts is the key for attracting them.
The dark male Sparrowhawk continues to visit the feeding station one
day it was wrestling with a Wood Pigeon but it was out done by the much
larger Pigeon which flew off minus a few feathers.
Down the road at Pugneys Country Park two Great Northern
Divers have taken up residency they appeared after the high winds before
Christmas along with the regular winter visiting Bitterns.
On the Optics front we have seen the introduction of
the Delta 65 S 17-52 zoom spotting scope a fully waterproof
Japanese made product which at £249 plus some tempting tripod
deals is proving to be a best seller.
In the mid price range the Optricron GS,ES and HR range
dominate especially with a SDLV2 Zoom eyepiece.
The new Delta SL3 binocular as become a best seller
with its open bridge excellent optics and lightweight making it a hit
with anyone who tries it.
At the top end of the market the Swarovski range have
become the bestsellers the Swarovision binoculars and ATM scope offering
top performance.
At the lower end of the market the Opticron Trailfinder
8/10x42 at just over £100 offer unbeatable value for money.
